SHUJALPUR HISTORY

Shujalpur is an attractive town in Shajapur District of Madhya Pradesh. It occupies an important place in history. Originally founded by a Jain merchant, the town was earlier known as Rai Karanpur. In the 16th century, this place was taken over by Shujjat Khan, the right hand man of Emperor Sher Shah Suri, and after him it came to be known as Shujalpur. Today, the town has a sound agricultural base which guarantees a flourishing economy. It has a fairly moderate climate with an average rainfall of 80-100 cm. Situated on the Malwa Plateau, the area is abundant in rich black cotton soil suitable for seasonal crops such as soyabean, gram and wheat.
The important places in and around the city include Ancient Jatashankar Temple and Ranoganj Chhatri.
Shujalpur is well connected by road and rail with important cities and towns including Ujjain and Bhopal. It is situated about 81 km by rail and 93 km by road from Bhopal. The nearest airport is Bhopal Airport
